Sperling says. “A key step is for consumers and automakers to abandon the horsepower go to history,” he said. “populate want more fuel-efficient vehicles that are good for the world and good for the environment and we have the ability to alter those cars and trucks now.” This entry was posted on Thursday. "IE8 passes Acid2 test" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-20 19:13:12

Blimey. Cor luvvaduck and no mistake. Just after the announcement that about Internet Explorer’s dodgy standards support that an internal create of the. This doesn’t necessarily mean that IE8 has fixed all its float oddities or its hasLayout hilarities. But what it does mean is that there is another browser war and. Added 20 December 2007: Markus Mielke of the Internet Explorer team confirms ““. Exciting times… […] Mozilla Firefox 3 e Internet Explorer 8. […] The affiliate has been consistently dunned by critics over the past dozen years for not making IE entirely compliant with various Web standards. Due to its sheer dominance of the browser market that lack of compliance say critics has helped to prevent consistent behaviors between competing browsers – and thus discouraged the use of any browsers other than IE. Indeed. IE7’s inability to completely pass the Acid2 test was one of the criticisms hurled at Microsoft last week by Opera-coincidence ? :) […] I’m also glad that Opera undergo raised the stakes with a complaint to the European Union. A few outbursts aside. I’ve never been anti-Microsoft but I am most definitely anti-monopoly. A monopoly can never acquire consumers and must be forced to compete. When Microsoft had a competitor in Netscape it innovated: Internet Explorer had the best CSS support and IE6 was a marvellous browser that ushered in the era of CSS-based design. But once.

"Google Applauds Standards Group for Rejecting Microsoft" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-12 15:23:29

In a post on its internal explore Code blog. Programs Manager Zaheda Bhorat said that Google Incorporated agrees with the decision of the International Organization for Standardization not to approve the abstain track of XML-based file change. OOXML. The ISO voted earlier this month to evaluate an attempt by Microsoft to use another standards body. Ecma International to fast bring in OOXML through the process to become an international standard. The process was riddled with complaints that Microsoft placed populate sympathetic to its cause in key voting positions toward the end of the process in an attempt to swing the choose in its save. Bhorat notes that Google disapproves of OOXML because it is incompatible with change state Document Format which is already an ISO standard for XML-based documents. Other reasons Google supports the ISO decision are that the affiliate believes there was not enough time to review the specification: there are undocumented features of OOXML that prevent implementation by other vendors and dependencies on Microsoft proprietary formats and technical defects makes OOXML difficult to fully implement. Bhorat also used the affix to amaze for ODF which Google supports in its Web-based office. IBM and other Microsoft rivals also are vocal supporters of ODF. Wasn't ooxml compatability move of the agreement that was made between microsoft and some of the linux companies? Was it worth it? Wasn't ooxml compatability part of the agreement that was made between microsoft and some of the linux companies? Was it worth it? Wasn't ooxml compatability move of the agreement that was made between microsoft and some of the linux companies? Was it worth it? Yes specifically Linspire--its still Linspire (supporting Freespire)--in fact no-one knows exactly what was in that broach only that it includes fonts media codecs (windows media 10 compatibility later versions desire media11 who knows) Probably not it won't get Linspire much unless windows compatibility is so very inportant that you can't do without it--for a desktop user who surfs plays some media maybe some games,. It is not only unnecessary but buys into Microsoft's game that being compatible is what Linux and MAC have to do in request to survive. They don't all they have to be is file compatible aka samba or ODF for OpenOffice and not change surface like a cheap conform to in the face of the protection racket that they (Microsoft) undergo been running.. (Microsoft IP threats and the usual FUD!)--besides all that you can get a VM like virtualbox running with your own windows that should be enough compatibility for most populate..

"Amazon aStores allowing CSS customization" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-01 21:09:38

A cool sight by Aaron Gustafson from Webstandards org here his affix: In a fairly interesting act. Amazon is now allowing aStores to be customized using CSS. This morning. Amazon announced that their aStore product (part of the selling tools available to folks enrolled in the Amazon Associates program) would accept beat customization of the look and conclude via CSS. Currently the interface only allows for approximately 8000 characters of custom CSS but that level of control is allowed on several of the summon types including product descriptions and examine results. On top of that users can also share these custom “themes” with others. Of cover the underlying markup of the aStore product leaves a bit to be desired: it is a strange blend of DIVs and TABLEs that offers little semantic value. It’s also not valid HTML but the validation errors are not difficult to overcome: missing DOCTYPE unencoded ampersands etc. (it should be noted however that the missing DOCTYPE does throw the summon rendering into Quirks Mode so keep that in mind if you decide to customize an aStore). Implementation issues aside the real story here is that a major corporation like Amazon is willing to give some hold back over look and feel of one of their products and that they are using actual CSS to do it rather than relying on a series of color and font pickers (although that is still an option). What are your thoughts? Would you desire to see more products allow this choose of control? What are they doing right? What are they doing wrong? What could be improved? Personally. I’d like to undergo the ability to customize the markup (microformats anyone?) and then axe the default styles altogether

"Need For Standards" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-21 21:12:18

Seeing me crib for lack of standards or sometimes a friend who is not a software professional asked me to confirm my anguish. I started with the whole set of arguments and he mentioned that he carried his laptop around the world used a lot of documents and till now Microsoft Office had been pretty good for him. I anticipate feel the same way. And entering into the whole new arguments was not going to work he really did not mind about the technical details. come up what worked was using the non-software world to inform it. During the discussion he mentioned that it was a real pain to carry around the plug adaptor since every country had their own shapes. ! I asked him would it not be great if there was a common cause. It would reduce quite a lot of baggage considering most of the international travellers carry a laptop. The common shape would enhance interoperability. He agreed. Now consider that every country also has its own voltage specifications. This causes a requirement of some kind of transformer in between that adapts the voltage. If the voltage was common too it would further reduce the baggage and I anticipate cost too. After this he shuddered to imagine a world where laptops from only a specific vendor would bring home the bacon with a specific voltage and cause that is every vendor came up with their own specifications and changed them at their whims and fancies so that they could sell their own electrical peripherals too. He said that would almost kill the whole electricity distribution. Exactly! Now. I do not know the reasons for difference in the voltage and plug shapes. From what I experience the existing distribution system impose these restrictions and it is quite an overhaul to change them. However. I know enough of software to know where standards would work. Or where vendors promote proprietary ways to acquire their business at our be. It is better to earn through be and providing convenience to the users. Now that my friend could understand my rants he said he will think about standards that his company adopts. He understood that if they are already spending money it is better if they spend it on standards-compliant software do alter our lives easy. Exactly! <a>. <em>. <strong>. <abbr>. <code>. <blockquote>
